According to Michaela Bauer, with the mobilized funding, several support activities have already been completed, including multi-purpose cash assistance and emergency support for clean water and sanitation immediately after the floods. UNICEF will continue other support activities throughout 2026. UNICEF hopes to continue receiving close coordination and support from Gia Lai province to ensure that programs are implemented effectively, in a timely manner, for the right beneficiaries, with priority given to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
In addition, UNICEF wishes to expand its support for Gia Lai in the areas of nutrition and healthcare, and proposed expanding the “Child-Friendly Partners” project document to include an emergency response component for nutrition and health. Michaela Bauer expressed hope that the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee would soon review and approve the proposal so that activities can be implemented in 2026.
Luong Van Anh, Deputy Director General of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control, stated that based on assessments of damage levels and actual local needs, the Department hopes UNICEF will continue accompanying the province, prioritizing support for essential sectors such as clean water, environmental sanitation, nutrition, healthcare and education, especially for children and vulnerable groups, thereby helping people stabilize their lives and recover after natural disasters.
At the meeting, Duong Mah Tiep, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee, provided information on the severe damage caused by Typhoon No. 13 and the historic floods in November 2025, which affected around 28,000 houses, including 674 that need to be rebuilt. Many schools, hospitals and health stations were also heavily damaged. Total losses are estimated at about 11.5 trillion VND, slowing the province’s socio-economic growth in 2025.
The Vice Chairman expressed appreciation and sincere thanks for UNICEF’s timely attention and support in disaster recovery efforts in Gia Lai. The province committed to using the assistance for the right purposes, in a public, transparent manner and for the correct beneficiaries, prioritizing those most severely affected.
Regarding UNICEF’s proposals, the leadership of the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee expressed strong agreement and affirmed that the province will focus on directing and promptly implementing urgent activities that align with local practical needs.
