In her welcoming remarks, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep stressed that Can Tho is the central city of the Mekong Delta, bringing together distinctive cultural and historical values and often referred to as the “city of rivers and waterways.”

Through the event, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep expressed her hope of strengthening connections between businesses in Can Tho and Thai enterprises and investors. Can Tho expects to work with businesses to develop cooperative programmes, including promoting destinations through international media platforms, developing new tourism products, tapping the ASEAN tourism market more effectively, and enhancing tourism connectivity between Thailand and Can Tho.

She affirmed that Can Tho would continue to accompany businesses by creating a transparent and favourable investment and business environment while standing ready to support enterprises in exploring cooperation opportunities, investment and tourism project development in the city.

At the event, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand Hoang Diem Hanh emphasized that the programme was not only an opportunity to introduce one of Vietnam's distinctive destinations, but also demonstrated the proactive efforts of localities in translating the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into practical cooperation initiatives that benefit people and businesses in both countries, particularly as the two nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

According to Hoang Diem Hanh, tourism has consistently been one of the most dynamic and effective areas of cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand. Beyond generating economic value, tourism helps strengthen mutual understanding, reinforce friendship, and promote the unique cultural values of each nation. She expressed confidence that stronger connectivity between riverside localities, tourism businesses and tourism authorities in both countries would create new opportunities for cooperation, contributing not only to improving the quality of tourism products but also to the sustainable development of the Mekong sub-region.

She affirmed that the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand would continue to serve as a bridge, working closely with localities, businesses and partners from both countries to promote connectivity, destination marketing, and the effective implementation of tourism, trade and investment cooperation initiatives.

During the event, participants were introduced to the tourism potential of Can Tho City and Thailand, while exchanging experiences and exploring opportunities for cooperation, tourism route development and market expansion between the two sides.

Can Tho occupies an important strategic position at the heart of the Mekong Delta and serves as a gateway to the lower Mekong region. The city plays a key role as a regional and international transport hub, as well as a centre for finance, trade, services, human resource training, science and technology, and healthcare in the Mekong Delta.
