The seminar attracted more than 160 delegates and took place amid growing cooperation between Viet Nam and Germany in labour migration and vocational training. However, this cooperation has also raised a number of issues concerning the protection of workers’ rights, their safety and the conditions necessary for their integration into German society, particularly for migrant workers and vocational trainees.

During the discussion session, experts and delegates exchanged views on initiatives undertaken by the Vietnamese community to support Vietnamese trainees and workers travelling to Germany. They also highlighted persistent challenges in this process, including differences in German language proficiency requirements, shortcomings in language training, and cases in which workers have not been fully guaranteed their rights.

Delegates also emphasised the need to ensure recruitment quality from the outset, noting that some German businesses have not yet made adequate preparations to receive foreign workers and support their integration. Another issue raised was the gap between the expectations of workers and their families and the realities of life in Germany.

According to experts, the Vietnamese community can play an important role in helping newcomers integrate by sharing practical experiences, providing information about common challenges and offering guidance on how to address them. At the same time, the community needs to participate more actively in the recruitment process, helping ensure that recruitment is conducted fairly, transparently and responsibly.

Participants noted that population ageing will mean Germany continues to need to attract workers from third countries, including Viet Nam. In this context, strengthening the role and voice of the Vietnamese community in shaping fair migration policies, while enhancing the accountability of recruiting companies and intermediaries, will be important to ensuring that labour migration to Germany takes place safely and sustainably.
