The programme was attended by General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission and Director of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Viet Nam People’s Army, who was visiting and working in Algeria at the time.

The documentary revisited important milestones in the history of Viet Nam-Algeria relations, highlighting similarities in the two countries’ struggles for national independence. Both Viet Nam and Algeria endured long and arduous struggles against colonialism to regain independence and freedom. The history of each nation was written through the sacrifices of generations, patriotism and the determination to achieve independence, while also being strengthened by solidarity and comradeship among those who shared the aspiration for self-determination and mastery of their countries’ destinies.

Beyond reflecting the struggles for independence, the documentary also highlighted the support and mutual assistance between the governments and peoples of the two countries during the years of war, as well as in the process of national reconstruction after independence. These sentiments created a special foundation for Viet Nam-Algeria relations, going beyond the framework of conventional diplomatic relations between two countries.

The struggle of the Vietnamese people against colonialism and imperialism was also portrayed as one of the important milestones in the global movement for national independence. The experiences, spirit of solidarity and mutual support among peoples that had fought against colonialism contributed to the formation of special international relations, including those between Viet Nam and Algeria.

Looking back on the historical journey that has passed is not only a way to affirm pride in the achievements secured by the two peoples, but also to gain a deeper understanding of the value of peace, independence and friendship. For Viet Nam and Algeria, these values were forged through the great sacrifices of previous generations and have become the foundation for the two countries to continue nurturing their relations in a new period.

Speaking at the programme, General Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasised the responsibility of today’s generations to inherit and promote the positive values formed through the historical struggles of the two peoples. He encouraged Vietnamese officials and the Vietnamese community in Algeria to remain dynamic and creative and make practical contributions to maintaining and developing friendship between the two countries, so that Viet Nam-Algeria friendship can continue to be nurtured and develop sustainably.

General Nguyen Trong Nghia also expressed his attention to the younger generation of Vietnamese descent in Algeria, encouraging those who have the opportunity to return to Viet Nam to visit the country and learn about its history, culture and national roots, thereby helping maintain their connection with their homeland and carry forward the positive values nurtured by previous generations.

As part of the programme, the delegation also visited the Algerian Army Museum, where they learned about documents and artefacts relating to the revolutionary struggle of the Algerian people against colonialism for national independence.

The visit helped members of the Vietnamese delegation gain a deeper understanding of the Algerian people’s struggle for independence, while highlighting similarities in the revolutionary histories of the two countries. From histories written through sacrifice and patriotism, Viet Nam and Algeria have built a special friendship, providing a basis for the two countries to continue strengthening political trust, expanding cooperation and looking towards the future.
