Strengthening People-to-People Ties Between Vietnam and Uruguay

On August 18 in Hanoi, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son received a Uruguayan delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Valeria Csukasi. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen people-to-people connections between the two countries through education, cultural exchanges, local cooperation, and other areas.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Valeria Csukasi said that one of the issues of particular interest to Uruguay during this visit to Viet Nam was how to bring the peoples of the two countries closer together. She expressed her hope that the two sides would exchange ideas and programs that could strengthen bonds between the people of Viet Nam and Uruguay.

According to Valeria Csukasi, geographical distance is no longer an obstacle when the two countries share common interests, principles, and values.

Giving an overview of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, President Phan Anh Son said that the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and its member organizations maintain relations with numerous organizations, individuals, research institutes, universities, and other partners in many countries.

Regarding Viet Nam-Uruguay relations, President Phan Anh Son said that the two countries enjoy good relations despite their geographical distance. He recalled the support extended by the Uruguayan people to Viet Nam in the 1960s, including activities protesting the war in Viet Nam, and affirmed that the Vietnamese people and friendship organizations always deeply appreciate and remember those sentiments.

According to Phan Anh Son, Viet Nam-Uruguay relations have been cultivated not only through government channels but also need continued efforts to strengthen ties between the peoples of the two countries. The two sides can build further connections through education, culture, the arts, sports, cooperation between localities, and friendship organizations.

He said that the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations is ready to establish connections and work with suitable partners introduced by the Uruguayan side. He also proposed strengthening contacts with the Uruguay-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group.
