Delivering a speech during the discussion on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized that the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are crucial strategic orientations and serve as the key for Vietnam to make breakthroughs, avoid the middle-income trap, and move towards sustainable development.

Affirming Vietnam’s support for the UN’s efforts to strengthen global governance of technology in line with the UN Charter and international law, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung called on ESCAP to promote the implementation of the Global Digital Compact at the regional level and to enhance initiatives related to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
Sharing perspectives with other regional delegates, the Ambassador remarked that the Asia-Pacific region is increasingly playing a central role in global innovation, with notable advancements in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
The Ambassador highlighted the need for equitable access to technology and urged developed countries to step up technology transfer, innovative financial support, and knowledge sharing to assist developing countries in their digital transformation journeys.
The 81st session of ESCAP, taking place from April 21 to 25, brings together over 650 delegates from 52 countries and territories and many international organizations. The session is scheduled to conclude on April 25 with the adoption of a series of regional resolutions on collaboration regarding climate change response, sustainable urban development, and support for middle-income countries towards inclusive development. |
