Australia Commits US$10 Million to Support Climate Businesses in Vietnam

The Australian government has just announced a commitment of up to US$10 million through the Australian Development Investments (ADI) fund to Do Ventures Fund II in Vietnam. This capital will be used by Do Ventures to support Vietnamese businesses developing climate change solutions, while also contributing to the growth of Vietnam’s climate investment market and attracting additional private financing.

The investment focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their startup and growth stages, particularly in areas such as energy transition, sustainable production and consumption, and AI-driven climate solutions.

According to the Australian side, the collaboration with the women-led venture capital fund Do Ventures Fund II also aims to help address structural barriers in the investment sector. Currently, women account for only around 11% of senior professionals in venture capital and private equity across emerging markets.

Speaking about the investment, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Gillian Bird emphasized that Australia has long been a trusted partner of Vietnam in its energy transition and climate change adaptation efforts. “This important commitment will strengthen Vietnam’s climate investment market, attract more private financing, and promote climate solutions in Vietnam,” Ambassador Gillian Bird said.

Le Hoang Uyen Vy, Managing Partner of Do Ventures Fund II, said the funding from ADI would help the fund expand its climate investment portfolio and support more Vietnamese founders in developing innovative and sustainable solutions. “With ADI’s investment, our fund can help many startups scale up and create a positive impact on the climate,” she shared.

According to Australian sources, Vietnam currently accounts for approximately 40% of ADI’s investment portfolio. Through its five active investment funds in Vietnam, ADI has supported the growth of 26 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), contributing to the creation of 5,781 jobs, improving access to finance for around 260,000 small entrepreneurs, and adding 19.2 MW of new solar power capacity.

In addition to financial support, ADI will also work with Do Ventures Fund II to strengthen climate investment capabilities, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and impact measurement, helping portfolio companies achieve more sustainable long-term growth.

ADI is currently the Australian Government’s AUD 250 million impact investment fund, implementing technical assistance programs and mobilizing private capital to advance climate and gender equality goals across developing countries.
