Dien Bien Phu Victory - Strong Stimulation for National Liberation Movement Worldwide
In an interview with reporters about the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), Oliveira said that thanks to the encouragement from the Vietnamese people's famous victory against the French army, from 1954 to the late 1960s, more than 40 nations gained independence from colonial rule.

According to Oliviera, the Dien Bien Phu Victory was the convergence of many factors, including the Party's leadership role, particularly President Ho Chi Minh's great strategic vision and General Vo Nguyen Giap's role as the commander. Ho Chi Minh saw the resistance war against French colonialism as an armed struggle with the participation of all oppressed people.
Oliviera, who spent years to research Vietnamese history, emphasized: "The resistance struggle must take into account strengths, opportunities, terrain and climate conditions and the solidarity of the entire people. The last factor is fundamental. Patriotism, the tradition of fighting against foreign invaders, political consciousness, and organizedness have become the real steel wall of the Vietnamese people while facing the enemy.
According to Oliviera, the Dien Bien Phu Victory was a source of encouragement for many colonized peoples around the world. Vietnam showed that a small nation with rudimentary weapons could win the war against a powerful colonial empire equipped with advanced weapons.
Referring to Vietnam's achievements in recent years, Oliviera highly appreciated the country's admirable economic growth since Doi Moi (Renovation) and achievements in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. Vietnam's export product structure has changed a lot. From a country exporting rice, coffee, and agricultural products, now Vietnam's list of export goods has transformed into industrial products with high added value.
The General Secretary of the Brazil - Vietnam Friendship Association emphasized that the Vietnamese revolution is a testament to Vietnam's ability to adapt to the actual, specific circumstances of the country and the world context. Nowadays, Vietnam has been successfully carrying out the task of protecting peace, fighting against neo-colonialism and imperialism, raising the flag of national independence, democracy, and social progress, implementing economic development and international cooperation tasks.
