There were more than 60 participants coming to the training and drill courses who were mainly the leader and monitor of local family-sized textile factories, the representatives of People’s Committee and Women’s Union at communal levels and women’s union staff at village level. During the courses, participants were noticed about the possible causes of fire, especially within the textile environment where there were several of flammable materials such as cotton fiber and fabrics. Also, participants had a chance to get familiar and practice using fire extinguishers throughout the drills. After the training and drill courses, all of the leaders and monitors of local family-sized textile factories committed to transfer the lessons learned to their workers, weekly check and clean the machines and wires, and equip their factories with fire extinguishers. The representatives of People’s Committee and Women’s Union promised that they would support and frequently check these factories to ensure their commitment implemented.
The “Training and Drill: Fire safety in local textile factories” course is a framework of the project “YES Center Hanoi”. The project “YES Center Hanoi” was designed to empower youth, giving priority to vulnerable young girls, women or those who have difficulty in accessing training programs and career opportunities, by strengthening their skills and voices for economic self-reliance and to take a leadership role in poverty alleviation initiatives in Vietnam./.
