(VNF) - The circulation of vehicles in some sections of the two central streets: Hang Gai and Cau Go will be banned during certain time frame, on Fridays evening and two weekend days, according to the Hanoi Department of Transport.

The department has ordered the city’s traffic management board to install signs in the banned streets.

It also asked the city’s transport inspectorate to cooperate with road and railway traffic police as well as Hoan Kiem district to guide vehicles moving towards the city centre.

Advice on bus routes affected will be passed on to passengers.

The ban aims to further facilitate the operation of Hanoi walking street, piloted since the beginning of September 2016, which has created a new space for cultural activities and entertainment for both domestic and international visitors to the capital city.

According to statistics, since the trial was kick started, the number of tourists visiting Hanoi on weekend has doubled, compared to weekdays.

In more details, on any given weekday, there are about 3,000 foreign guests visiting the capital, while on weekend, the number soars to about 6,000, said Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee Pham Tuan Long./.
