Hanoi -Vientiane highway to cost USD2.5 billion
Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) will help to conduct the feasibility study for the 725-kilometre long route.
Hanoi-Vientiane highway will be 725 kilometres long
At meeting with JICA representatives in Hanoi on Friday, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho said that it was necessary to have a meeting between Laos, Vietnam and JICA to agree on contents of the feasibility study.
A four to six-lane road, approved by the two governments, would start in Vientiane, pass through Pakxan in Laos, cross into Vietnam at Thanh Thuy Border Gate in Nghe An, travel through Ninh Binh provinces and end in Hanoi. This was seen as the shortest route.
The project would allow speeds of 100-120 kilometres per hour on its best stretches. Some USD1.5 billion would be invested in the first phase before 2020 and the remainder would be for the second phase after 2020./.
