The recognition was announced in the Decision No.3714/QĐ-UBND. According to the Decision, the management board of the Hoa Lo Prison Relic Site is responsible for managing and promoting the tourist site in accordance with the Law on Tourism and other relevant legal documents.
Located in the heart of Hanoi Capital, Hoa Lo is known as one of the most inhumane prison in Vietnam with the most modern equipment for the harshest punishment in the 20th century.
For over more than half a century, 200 revolutionary soldiers died and many were subjected to cruel torture and long detainment at the prison. It has become a symbol of the Vietnamese patriots’ indomitable will and myriad sacrifice for the national independence.
The prison is now a historical site open to visitors. Though a number of changes have been made, the arduous struggle has never faded away in the memories of Hanoi citizens. Even the dark and cold prison of Hoa Lo during that period could not break the patriotism of the political prisoners and the people of Hanoi and the whole country in the liberation of the capital, putting an end to the domination of the French colonialists over Vietnam./.
