Japan funds seven projects in Vietnam

The ODA fund aims to implement seven projects, including the North-South Expressway (Ben Luc – Long Thanh section) at over JPY31.3 billion, Thai Binh 1 Thermal Power Plant and National Power Transmission Network Development Project with JPY9.87 billion, the second phase of the Nhon Trach water supply plant priced at JPY14.91 billion JPY; the project of upgrading Can Tho University at a cost of JPY10.45 billion, drainage and sewage treatment in Ha Long city at JPY1.06 billion, electricity credit for grid distribution at JPY29.7 billion and a program to support mitigating the negative effects of climate change at JPY15 billion.

Minister Bui Quang Vinh said that over recent years, most of the infrastructure works, especially transport, power and other sectors in Vietnam used Japan’s ODA loans. Vietnam applauded the country’s ODA assistance which has significantly contributed to the construction of Vietnam’s infrastructure and boosting Vietnam’s strong economic growth.

Ambassador Hiroshi Fukada, stressed that aiming to continue to carry out Japan’s ODA aid projects, the two countries need to cooperate more closely in implementing projects, such as technology transfer and manpower training.

Since resuming its ODA to Vietnam in 1992, Japan has become Vietnam’s largest ODA provider with total capital delivery of JPY2,500 billion./.
