Kien Giang provides power supply project for island commune
Hon Nghe island commune in Kien Luong district, the southwestern province of Kien Giang linked to the national grid in 2016 as a power supply project started in Rach Gia city on October 10th, according to Vietnam News Agency .

The project, invested by the Southern Power Corporation, is estimated to cost about VND140 billion (USD6.3 million). It comprises the construction of a 22kV sea-crossing line and eight transformer stations with a combined capacity of 975 kVA.
Upon completion, the project will provide electricity for residents and economic constituents in Ba Lua archipelago and Hon Nghe island commune, which helps improve livelihoods of the residents, ensure security-defence while making contribution to the socio-economic development in the region.
Hon Nghe island, covering an area of 3.8 square kilometres, is home to 526 households with 2,229 residents who are earning their living through fish farming and services. Currently, the islanders consume diesel-generated electricity for production and business activities for 12 hours daily.
The project is part of the one that connects seven island communes with the national power grid implemented by the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Kien Giang province. The beneficial communes include Son Hai, Hon Nghe, Hon Doc, Lai Son, An Son, Nam Du and Hon Thom., Vietnam News Agency reported./.
