Luong Cuong, aged 67, has been a member of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat.
He enrolled in the army in 1975, before becoming Vice Director of the General Department of Politics in 2011 and Director of the General Department of Politics in 2016.
He was assigned by the Politburo as a Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat in May this year, replacing his predecessor Truong Thi Mai.
In his inaugural remarks, President Luong Cuong promised to stay absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution, and to exert efforts to fulfil the duties specified in the Constitution and the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people of Viet Nam.
