Nearly 25,000 prisoners granted amnesty
In realization of amnesty law and other legal regulations on reducing the duration of imprisonment for prisoners, jails under the Ministry of Public Security proposed an amnesty during the National Day (September 2nd) for 24,826 prisoners, the Police General Department of Criminal Verdict Execution and Judicial Assistance has reported.

According to Lieutenant-General Nguyen Ngoc Bang, Head of the department, of the prisoners, 2,092 were proposed to be released ahead of schedule, 11 to have their sentences reduced from life sentences to 20 years, 117 to have their sentences reduced from life sentences to 30 years, and the rest to reduce their duration of time-limit sentences.
State President Tran Dai Quang has agreed with the proposal, suggesting that the Government should direct the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies to carry out the amnesty plan in accordance with legal regulations.
The amnesty granted for prisoners during the National Day aims to realise the humanitarian and clemency policies of the Party and State; and respect and protect the legitimate interests of prisoners./.
