According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), northern Vietnam is experiencing the second intense, damaging cold spell in the year, with temperature falls to roughly 6-9C starting December 30.

Inland and coastal areas are expected to suffer from frost and strong winds.

The low temperature will take its heaviest toll on Northern and Northern Central regions, namely Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai. Mountainous areas might expect mercury ranging from 3-6C, while the number on mountain tops might fall to below 0C, with high possibility of ice and frost.

NCHMF warns that the low temperature might result in unfavorable weather patterns at sea. The Gulf of Tokin, including Bach Long Vi island, must stay vigilant of the North-easter level 7-8.

The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention requires ministries, branches and localities to proactively implement safety measures, especially among the elderly, children, school students to promptly cope with the severe weather patterns. Certain measures are also initiated to meditate production damage.
