Phu Yen increases Party leadership on realising social insurance and health insurance policies
Three years after the implementation of Politburo Resolution 21-NQ/TW on increasing Party leadership over social insurance and health insurance work, the health insurance coverage in the central province of Phu Yen increased from 55.3% in 2012 to 79% of the population, as of June this year.

Together with it, the number of social insurance and unemployment insurance participants rose sharply, proving a strong change in residents’ awareness in joining key social welfare policies.
According to Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Dinh Phung, over the past years, important achievements have been recorded in social insurance and health insurance work, contributing to stabilising people’s lives, realising social equality and stabilising political and social life.
He added that the provincial People’s Committee had issued perse plans to realise Resolution 21, disseminated the contents of the resolution to raise the awareness of Party organizations, authorities, agencies, enterprises and people on joining social and health insurance.
Pham Thi Lao, Director of the Song Hinh district Social Insurance, said that the mountainous district had a population of 48,111, with 47% of whom being ethnic minorities, reporting 31% of population living in poverty and over 13% living near the poverty line. “By implementing Resolution 21, the district has helped raise the awareness of Party organizations and authorities at the grassroots level on encouraging people to join social and health insurance, thus increasing the number of social and health insurance participants,” said Ms Lao.
According to Mr. Ho Phuong, Vice Director of the provincial Social Insurance, as of June 30th, the number of social insurance participants was 82,363, accounting for 16.4% of the workforce, against 9.4% in 2012, while the number of health insurance participants was 79% of the province’s population, against 55.3% in 2012. “The results show that social and health insurance policies have reached more labourers,” said Mr. Phuong./.
