Under Decision No. 5327/QD-UBND dated August 25, 2026, the project “Environmental restoration and war legacy remediation (NPA/RENEW) - Programme for post-war survey and clearance of bombs, mines and explosive remnants of war in Quang Tri Province, 2026-2030,” funded by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), has a non-refundable aid budget of USD 14,765,000, equivalent to more than VND 373 billion.

The project will be implemented in 36 communes and wards in Quang Tri Province, including Dong Ha, Nam Dong Ha, Quang Tri, Vinh Linh, Vinh Hoang, Cua Tung, Vinh Thuy, Ben Quan, Con Tien, Cua Viet, Gio Linh, Ben Hai, Cam Lo, Hieu Giang, La Lay, Ta Rut, Dakrong, Ba Long, Huong Hiep, Huong Lap, Huong Phung, Khe Sanh, Tan Lap, Lao Bao, Lia, A Doi, Trieu Phong, Ai Tu, Trieu Binh, Trieu Co, Nam Cua Viet, Dien Sanh, My Thuy, Hai Lang, Nam Hai Lang and Vinh Dinh.

The project aims to reduce the risk of accidents and the impact of post-war bombs, mines and explosive remnants of war on local communities. It will continue to support Quang Tri Province’s Action Programme on Addressing the Post-War Consequences of Bombs, Mines and Explosive Remnants of War, working towards a safe Quang Tri where bombs, mines and explosive remnants of war no longer pose obstacles to socio-economic development.

Under Decision No. 5328/QD-UBND dated August 25, 2026, the project “Survey and clearance of explosive remnants of war in Northern Quang Tri, Phase VIII (2026-2030),” funded by the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), has a non-refundable aid budget of USD 22,417,881, equivalent to more than VND 581 billion.

The project will be implemented in communes and wards in northern Quang Tri Province. It aims to enhance human safety and security and promote socio-economic development in areas of Quang Tri affected by explosive remnants of war (ERW), contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Specifically, the project will clear land in accordance with current standards and remove and destroy cluster munitions and other types of ERW that threaten the lives and daily activities of local communities in Quang Tri Province. It will also raise local residents’ awareness and knowledge of the risks posed by ERW and safe behavior.

At the same time, the project will strengthen coordination and cooperation with organizations and individuals working in the fields of humanitarian affairs, peace, stability, development and the environment. It will address cross-cutting issues to improve the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian mine action (HMA) activities.

Meanwhile, under Decision No. 5330/QD-UBND dated August 25, 2026, the project “Capacity Development for the Quang Tri Mine Action Centre (QTMAC), 2026–2030,” funded by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) in Vietnam, will be implemented in Quang Tri Province with non-refundable aid of USD 812,614.13, equivalent to nearly VND 22 billion.

The project aims to ensure a sustainable provincial mine action system that is fully integrated with the national system, enabling the coordinated, comprehensive and effective implementation of mine action pillars within the province’s socio-economic development framework. This will help optimize resources and ensure consistency with the National Action Programme on Addressing the Post-War Consequences of Bombs, Mines and Explosive Remnants of War for 2026–2045.

By 2030, NPA and the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee will jointly develop annual plans and targets based on the funding available each year. This will ensure flexibility, the capacity to respond to emerging needs, and alignment with the development priorities of the province and the country. Through these efforts, the project seeks to establish a sustainable provincial mine action system fully integrated with the national system and make Quang Tri a safe province by 2035.

More than half a century later, the special bond forged at that time remains alive in the memories of local people and through monuments that bear witness to Vietnam-Cuba friendship.

Relentless Search to Bring the Fallen Home By August 13, the forces involved had searched for and recovered the remains of 1,715 fallen soldiers, achieving 24.5% of the target. Of these, 691 sets of remains were recovered domestically, 174 in Laos, and 850 in Cambodia.
