From vessel monitoring systems (VMS) and electronic logbook software to the national fisheries database, digital technology is becoming an “extended arm” that helps Vietnam control fishing vessels, trace the origin of seafood, and prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The synchronized digitalization from the open sea to fishing ports reflects Vietnam’s strong determination to have the European Commission (EC) “yellow card” lifted, while paving the way toward a modern, transparent, and sustainable fisheries sector.
