Thua Thien-Hue: Vallet scholarships presented to over 200 needy students

Speaking at the event, Prof. Odon Vallet expressed his wish that scholars would do their best in study, thus making contributions to the nation.
He said Vallet scholarships will continue accompanying Vietnamese students in the near future.
Each scholarship for university students and pupils is worth 18 million VND and 10.5 million VND, respectively.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dung expressed his thanks to Prof. Odon Vallet and Prof. Tran Thanh Van – Chairman of the organisation “Meet Vietnam”.
He said Vallet scholarships have become a source of encouragement to Vietnamese students in the past years.
Ealier, on August 26, more than 500 outstanding students from 58 high schools and six SOS children's villages in the north received Vallet scholarships at a ceremony in Hanoi.
The Vallet Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Professor Odon Vallet from France’s Sorbonne University through the Meeting Vietnam Organisation.
The Vallet Scholarship has been awarded in Vietnam since 2001. This year is the 19th year that the Vallet Scholarship has been awarded in the country. More than 36,000 Vallet scholarships have so far been presented to Vietnamese students with a total value of more than 300 billion VND (13 million USD).
Awardees are typically excellent students in urban areas or children of poor families in remote areas in the Mekong Delta and northern mountainous provinces.
Born in Vietnam’s central Quang Binh province in 1936, Prof. Van studied in central Thua Thien-Hue province and then travelled to France to continue his studies there. He held a doctorate in physics in 1963 with his scheme on the structure of protons and quarks. He was also one of three Asians awarded the Tate Order by the US Physics Association in 2012./.
