The Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex in Ninh Binh province in northern Vietnam, an “outdoor geological museum”, has been inscribed in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Heritage List, the country’s first site to be acknowledged as a mixed natural and cultural property. It is also home to local citizens.
The master scheme clearly points out space development dimensions: the Trang An eco-tourism site, buffer zone (protective zone), residential area, and service-tourism areas.
Construction activities are allowed in the buffer zone, however, they should be strictly controlled.
The covering space of the buffer zone is pided into four units: Bai Dinh unit is a spiritual tourism site and new university area (East), Truong Yen-Ninh Hoa unit in the North is a rural residential area and for tourism services; Ninh Nhat-Ninh Tien unit in the West is a residential area and for tourism services; while in the South, Ninh Thang-Ninh Hai unit is a residential area and for tourism services./.
