UN Calls for International Support for Victims of Venezuela Earthquake
	Second Special Relief Flight from Vietnam Arrives in Venezuela

Interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced the seven-day period of national mourning in memory of those who lost their lives in the two powerful earthquakes that struck on June 24. The disaster has claimed nearly 2,300 lives, while thousands of people remain missing.

In a message posted on social media, Rodriguez said the national mourning period would begin at 6:00 p.m. local time on July 1 (5:00 a.m. on July 2, Vietnam time). She also expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and affirmed that the Venezuelan government would continue to stand by and support people affected by the disaster.

"The soul of Venezuela has been torn apart by the loss of life caused by these devastating earthquakes," Rodriguez wrote.

After arriving in Venezuela, the rescue team traveled approximately 40 kilometers from Simón Bolívar International Airport to the capital, Caracas, where the earthquakes struck, to deploy personnel and equipment and immediately begin search and rescue operations.

Also on July 1, President of the National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez said that, as of July 1, the two earthquakes had claimed 2,295 lives and injured more than 11,000 people. Rescue workers continue searching for those still missing beneath collapsed buildings.

Meanwhile, General Francis Donovan, Commander of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), said about 2,000 U.S. troops are participating in relief operations in areas surrounding Venezuela, with ground, air, and naval forces involved.
