In his opening remarks, the leader of the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam emphasized that the two countries have a traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation that is constantly being strengthened and developed. He highlighted that Italy is currently Vietnam's most important partner in Europe. Meanwhile, Vietnam is Italy's key partner in Southeast Asia. This forum is an important milestone, promoting investment, trade and business cooperation between the two countries in a substantive, effective and comprehensive direction, he noted.
Also, Italy is currently Vietnam's third largest trading partner in the European Union. In the first 7 months of 2025, two-way trade turnover will reach more than US $4.3 billion, up 5.1% over the same period in 2024; in which, Vietnam's exports to Italy reached US $3.1 billion, up 4.5%; imports reached US $1.2 billion, up 6.7%.
In terms of investment, Italian investors currently have 162 projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than US $624 million, ranking 32nd among 151 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. In contrast, Vietnam has an investment project in Italy with a total capital of nearly US $700,000.

The Deputy Minister believed that there is still a lot of room for economic-trade-investment cooperation between the two countries. For example, Italian businesses to share from their experiences to support Vietnam to access investment sources, namely green, sustainable finance and science - technology and innovation. Vietnam prioritizes attracting selective investment in the areas of green economy, digital economy, circular economy, renewable energy, international financial center, agriculture and high-tech industry, trade and tourism.
The Deputy Minister also hoped for Italian side to support Vietnamese businesses to participate more deeply in the global supply chain, and that Italy will have a voice to promote the European Union to soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), to expand the space for cooperation and effectively exploit the two major markets, ASEAN and the EU. The two sides need to strengthen cooperation in new fields such as digital economy, green economy, circular economy and energy transition, especially in renewable energy development to realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
He stated that he always attaches importance to and listens to the opinions of the business community, is ready for dialogue to remove difficulties and obstacles, and at the same time constantly improves the legal framework, mechanisms and policies to create a favorable, equal and attractive business environment. The goal is the development of the business in the spirit of "win-win", contributing to the friendship and common prosperity of the two countries.
Within the framework of the Forum, more than 10 memorandums of understanding (MoU) have been signed in key areas such as innovation and industry 4.0, energy and infrastructure, finance-insurance cooperation, trade promotion and tourism. These are important documents, opening a new direction of cooperation, contributing to creating a foundation for businesses of the two countries to implement specific projects in the coming time.
The Vietnam-Italy Business Forum 2025 has demonstrated the determination of the Governments of the two countries in creating a favorable environment for the business community, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership, towards the goal of upgrading it into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
