Vietnam, Canada augment bilateral defense ties

Vietnam and Canada will boost all-level delegation exchanges, communication on the sidelines of international forums and cooperation in maritime security, officer training, anti-terrorism, and prevention of transnational crimes in the time to come.

Both Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Brigadier-General Kevin Cotton, Head of the Canadian Forces College, who is leading a delegation from the National Security Program of Canada in a field-trip to Vietnam, emphasized that during their meeting in Hanoi on April 16.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed that over the past 40 years, the relationship between Vietnam and Canada has developed significantly.

Based on the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, the two defense ministries have actively cemented bilateral defense cooperation with a focus on fields of huge potential such as defense industry, education and training.

They are considering a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in joining UN peacekeeping operations./.
