National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan receives Mr. Ousmane Dione - the WB's Country Director for Vietnam.

The National Assembly Chairwoman expressed her gladsomeness to see Mr. Ousmane Dione again, a close friend of Vietnam. Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highly appreciated the World Bank and Country Director for Vietnam Ousmane Dione individually's support and cooperation for Vietnam's development in many areas, especially helping Vietnam to develop institutions and build infrastructure, achieving positive results. Those contributing significantly to the achievements of socio-economic development of Vietnam as well as strengthening cooperation between the World Bank and the Vietnam's National Assembly.

The NA Chairwoman also highly appreciated Mr Ousmane Dione's contribution in directing the development of the Vietnam National Partnership Framework - World Bank Group for the period of 2018-2022, in order to support Vietnam transition to an middle-income country (MICs) basing its four key priorities: inclusive growth and private sector participation; investing in people and knowledge; enhancing sustainability, environmental resilience and good governance. The World Bank has also assisted Vietnam in realizing its vision and implementing policy recommendations in its "Vietnam 2035" Strategic Report.

Mekong River issues' recommendations by the World Bank are highly appreciated by the NA Chairwoman

Appreciating the World Bank's recommendations on the Mekong River, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that Vietnam was located downstream and that all the changes in the river would affect 21 million people living in Mekong Delta. Along with climate change and rising sea levels, the upstream hydroelectric dams have had a strong impact on people's lives. In particular, this year has been the most intense saltwater intrusion in all provinces of the Mekong Delta.

Besides, in the context of the COVID - 19 pandemic's 2nd wave risk could still recur, the Chairwoman hoped that the World Bank would continue to provide technical and advisory support to Vietnam to find and devise effective solutions to cope with COVID - 19 risk, including ensuring the health of the community, people, and stabilizing and developing the economy.

Country Director of the World Bank for Vietnam Ousmane DioneSincerely said sincere thanks to the National Assembly Chairwoman for the time of welcoming and appreciated the important role of the Vietnam National Assembly in the country's development, especially in the legislative work, such as the adoption of the PPP Public Private Partnership Investment Law, the resolution to ratify the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

He also made a number of recommendations for Vietnam, including restarting the economy, creating breakthroughs and taking advantage of opportunities from the COVID pandemic- 19, formulating strategies and plans for socio-economic development in the coming time, especially in the field of logistics and infrastructure development. Along with that, the implementation of the "green diplomacy" method involving Vietnam's important role in working with countries to solve problems on the Mekong River has key implications for the development of the Mekong Delta region.
