Vietnamese businesses seek to expand investment in Cambodia
Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia met with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) on September 14 in Phnom Penh to discuss challenges and improve conditions for Vietnamese investment in the country.
The event was jointly organized by the CDC, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, the Vietnamese Embassy’s Economic Office and Trade Office in Cambodia, and the Viet Nam-Cambodia Business Association (VCBA).
Speaking at the event, Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodia Investment Board under the CDC, highlighted the close ties between Viet Nam and Cambodia and said the CDC was committed to supporting Vietnamese businesses expanding their investment in Cambodia.
Vietnamese businesses have invested more than 3 billion USD in Cambodia, he said, adding that there remains considerable room for investment as the number and value of Vietnamese projects remain below potential.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu said economic, trade, and investment cooperation is a focus of bilateral ties. Two-way trade reached a record 11.33 billion USD in 2025 and 8.67 billion USD in the first eight months of 2026, up 8.3% year-on-year, according to Vietnamese statistics, reported VNA.

Viet Nam currently has 223 investment projects in Cambodia with total registered capital of nearly 3.4 billion USD. Vietnamese companies operate in agriculture, particularly large-scale farming, finance and banking, telecommunications, aviation, processing, trade and services.
They employ tens of thousands of local workers and contribute hundreds of millions of USD to Cambodia’s budget each year, while also supporting local social welfare programs.Vu said investment cooperation still falls short of the potential of bilateral relations. He called on the CDC to provide Vietnamese businesses with more information on priority sectors, investment locations, economic zones, suitable land funds, incentives and projects seeking investment.
Chea Vuthy said Cambodia welcomes Vietnamese investors and is working to create a favourable investment environment through incentives, administrative reforms and simplified procedures.
VCBA Chairman Oknha Leng Rithy said Vietnamese businesses have increasingly shifted from exporting raw agricultural materials to Viet Nam for processing to building factories and processing materials locally in Cambodia. This trend has helped reduce costs, improve competitiveness, and promote long-term partnerships with Cambodian businesses.
Khanh Hoa looks to expand tourism cooperation with RoK
Vietnam’s central Khanh Hoa province is looking to learn from Jeju’s tourism experience, particularly in marine sports, while strengthening air links, business ties and destination promotion to retain and expand the market in the Republic of Korea.
During a current working visit to the Republic of Korea, a Khanh Hoa delegation met with representatives from management agencies, associations and businesses to explore tourism models that could be adapted to the province’s own conditions.
One area of particular interest is the development of marine sports and recreational tourism products, including a plan to establish a kiteboarding centre in the My Hoa area of Vinh Hai commune.
On September 14, the delegation, led by Nguyen Long Bien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, paid a courtesy visit to Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Ho and held talks with Lee Chang Kun, Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador to the RoK at the Vietnamese Embassy in Seoul.
At the meeting, Lee spoke highly of the potential for tourism promotion and cooperation between Khanh Hoa and the RoK, noting that Nha Trang–Khanh Hoa has consistently been among the priority destinations in Vietnam’s tourism promotion activities in the Korean market.
He expressed hope that tourism authorities, local administrations, associations and businesses from both countries would further strengthen their connections and translate cooperation orientations into practical programs to boost visitor exchanges and promote destinations, cited VOV.

Bien, for his part, said Khanh Hoa considers the Republic of Korea one of its key tourism markets and seeks to strengthen ties with Jeju in tourism, marine sports and aviation. The province proposed joint promotional programs, familiarization trips and press trips, the development of two-way tourism products, and closer links among airlines and travel businesses.
Of particular note, Khanh Hoa hopes to receive support in connecting with partners to conduct market research, develop visitor demand and explore the possibility of restoring the Cam Ranh–Jeju air route. The province also plans to promote its tourism products in the Republic of Korea and connect Korean investors with potential projects in Khanh Hoa.
Northern Viet Nam braces for three days of torrential rain
Northern Viet Nam is bracing for three days of torrential rain, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm and authorities warning of flash floods, landslides and widespread flooding.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the tropical depression weakened into a low-pressure area after making landfall in Quang Tri on the evening of September 13. It then moved into central Laos and gradually dissipated.
However, its circulation, combined with an intertropical convergence zone, continues to bring heavy rain to northern and central Viet Nam, with the heaviest rainfall shifting northward.
Northern Viet Nam is expected to experience three days of heavy rain from September 14-16, with rainfall exceeding 500mm in some areas. In central Viet Nam, the affected area is gradually narrowing, with heavy rain now concentrated mainly between Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh.
Torrential rain from northern Viet Nam to Ha Tinh
From the night of September 13 through the morning of September 14, areas from southern Nghe An to northern Quang Tri received heavy to extremely heavy rain.
Rainfall generally ranged from 60-100mm, but some locations recorded much higher totals, including 225mm in Hoa Thanh, Quang Tri, and 184mm in Ky Thuong, Ha Tinh.
From the morning of September 14 through the night of September 15, the southern Red River Delta and areas from Thanh Hoa to northern Ha Tinh are forecast to receive 150-300mm of rain, with more than 450mm possible in some places.
Other parts of the Red River Delta, southern Son La and Phu Tho, and Ha Tinh are forecast to receive 100-180mm, with isolated totals exceeding 250mm.
From the evening of September 14 through the night of September 15, the northern midlands and southern parts of Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai are expected to receive 50-100mm, with isolated totals above 150mm.
Forecasters warned that rainfall intensity could exceed 100mm within three hours.
On September 16, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue across the northern midlands and Red River Delta, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, as well as southern areas of Son La, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai.
Rainfall is forecast at 20-40mm, with isolated totals exceeding 70mm.
Total rainfall from early September 14 through September 16 is forecast to reach 180-350mm across the southern Red River Delta and from Thanh Hoa to northern Ha Tinh, with some areas receiving more than 500mm.
The northern midlands, other parts of the Red River Delta, Phu Tho and southern areas of Son La, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai are forecast to receive 100-200mm, with isolated totals exceeding 300mm.
Hanoi is expected to receive moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms from the morning of September 14 through the night of September 15, with rainfall of 40-120mm and isolated totals above 150mm, VNN reported.

Nguyen Ngoc Huy, an expert on climate change and disaster warnings, said the circulation of the former tropical depression would bring heavy rain to coastal areas from Nghe An to Hai Phong on the morning of September 14.
From later in the day through September 16, heavy rain is expected to persist in Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen and Hai Phong while spreading to Hanoi, Quang Ninh and Hoa Binh.
Residents in low-lying areas, including parts of Hanoi and Ninh Binh, should be alert to flooding as river levels rise, Huy warned.
“People often become complacent after hearing that a storm or tropical depression has dissipated, but its circulation can still cause widespread and prolonged heavy rain,” he said.
Rivers rising as landslide threat grows
Water levels in rivers from Quang Tri to Hue are gradually falling, according to the national weather agency. The Thach Han River was 0.72 metres below the third warning level.
A new flood wave could develop on rivers from Thanh Hoa to Hue through September 16.
Water levels on the Ngan Sau and Ngan Pho rivers in Ha Tinh could reach the second to third warning levels, while the Thach Han River is expected to continue falling and fluctuate around the first to second warning levels.
Western areas of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Tri face a particularly high risk of flash floods and landslides on September 14.
The threat is greatest in mountainous areas, on steep slopes and in places where heavy rainfall has accumulated over several days.
