Under the theme “Together with the Hibakusha, let us build a peaceful, just and nuclear-weapon-free world for the future of humanity and our planet,” the 2026 Conference took place against the backdrop of an increasingly complex and unpredictable international environment. Intensifying strategic competition among major powers and the persistence of multiple conflicts continue to have adverse impacts on international peace and security, as well as on global efforts toward nuclear disarmament.

The 2026 World Conference against A and H Bombs took place in Hiroshima, Japan, from August 2 to 7, 2026.

Notably, the recently concluded 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) ended without consensus on a final outcome document, underscoring the growing challenges facing global efforts to advance disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation. Against this backdrop, the Conference played an important role in amplifying the voices of peace movements and international people's organizations, promoting dialogue, building trust, and mobilizing broad international support for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.

The Conference featured a series of events attended by hundreds of international delegates representing peace movements, trade unions, women's and youth organizations, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, government agencies, and local authorities, alongside thousands of Japanese participants from across the country.

At the Conference's official opening ceremony, Duong Thi Nga, Deputy Secretary-General of the Vietnam Peace Committee, formally presented a message from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam to the Conference Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee solemnly read the message before all participants during the opening session of the International Conference and circulated Japanese and English translations throughout the event.

In the message of solidarity, the General Secretary and State President expressed deep appreciation for the Organizing Committee's more than seven decades of dedicated efforts to promote nuclear disarmament and ensure that the voices of the Hibakusha - survivors of the atomic bombings - continue to be heard. He also underscored the fundamental importance of the NPT and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), reaffirming Vietnam's consistent position and responsible contributions to global peace in general and to nuclear non-proliferation efforts in particular.

In addition, a congratulatory letter from President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son, was respectfully sent to the Conference. The letter conveyed the Vietnamese people's profound sympathy for the suffering endured by Japan's Hibakusha, reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to continuing to stand alongside international peace organizations in pursuit of a world free of nuclear weapons, and pledged to actively promote a culture of peace among younger generations.

At this year's Conference, the Vietnamese delegation assumed multiple roles, serving as speakers and co-chairs of the International Conference, delivering remarks during the opening plenary session, participating in the Drafting Committee responsible for preparing the Conference's Joint Declaration, and making active contributions to the success of the series of events.

The voice and contributions of the representatives of the Vietnam Peace Committee at the Conference fully reflected the Vietnamese people's profound solidarity with, and enduring commitment to, the international peace movement.
