A delegation of Vietnam Customs, led by Director of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Division under the Customs Department Vu Quang Toan, recently attended the 18th Anti-Smuggling Cooperation Conference between Vietnam Customs and the General Administration of Customs of China, held in China.

The conference was co-chaired by the leadership of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Division (Vietnam Customs Department) and the Anti-Smuggling Bureau (General Administration of Customs of China). It aimed to implement the Joint Statement between Vietnam and China on further deepening and elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promoting the building of a Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future.

At the conference, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of cooperation in combating smuggling and trade fraud since the 17th conference, while exchanging views and agreeing on key areas of cooperation to implement the common understandings reached by the senior leaders of the two countries, as reflected in the Joint Statement issued following the State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to China in April 2026.

Accordingly, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in implementing joint international activities under the “Mekong Dragon” Operation, while enhancing law enforcement cooperation in combating smuggling, trade fraud, and the illegal cross-border transportation of goods.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating crimes involving narcotics, precursor chemicals, wildlife and products derived from endangered, precious, and rare species, commercial explosives, dual-use goods, tobacco, and intellectual property rights infringements.

Building on the results already achieved, Vietnam Customs and the General Administration of Customs of China agreed to continue treating information exchange as a key area of cooperation; strengthen coordination among border customs clusters; and implement joint control operations targeting several priority categories of goods. At the same time, both sides will review, update, and agree on a list of designated contact points to improve the effectiveness of coordinated inspections and controls from the central to the local level, thereby helping detect, prevent, and promptly handle violations of the law.
