World Vision, MOET join hands to end violence against children in 14 provinces

This partnership between the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and World Vision aims to end violence against children, contributing to achieving the well-being of children in Vietnam.

On May 17, World Vision and MOET signed a Cooperation Agreement on the implementation of “Ending physical violence against children at home and school” campaign.

World Vision and MOET will join hands in a sequence of programs and activities in 14 provinces of World Vision’s project areas (Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Dac Nong, Binh Thuan provinces and HCM city).

The partnership aims to build and maintain a safe, healthy and violence-free educational environment for children by promoting behavioral transformation education for teachers and students.

“Because of the harmful effects of violence against children, MOET has always wanted to join hands with organizations and inpiduals to repel violence,” said MOET Vice Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia.

“Schools play an important role in shaping children’s attitude, behaviors, and personalities. That’s why it is World Vision’s consistent approach in all child protection programs to cultivate the value of love at homes, schools and communities. Only when a child is treated and nurtured with love and care can he have a positive look at the world around him and treat others with kindness,” explained Tran Thu Huyen, National Director of World Vision in Vietnam.

Within the framework of this partnership, World Vision and MOET will collaborate to promote the practical knowledge and skills that teachers and students can put into use to prevent violence against children at school.

Specifically, positive discipline will be introduced to teachers as an alternative and more effective method in teaching and reinforcing good behaviors among students without having to hurt them verbally or physically.

Meanwhile, behavioral transformation is the focus of the activities targeting students, helping them to recognize the risks of violence, thus increase the capacity to respond to and protect themselves from violence.
