As many as 200 cherry trees presented by Japan will be planted in Hoa Binh park, Bac Tu Liem district according to Notice 57-TB/TU of the Standing Board of the Hanoi city Party Committee.

The gift is part of the Japanese cherry blossom cultural festival 2016 and the Cherry blossoms from Japan will arrive in Hanoi late March.

The Standing Board of the Hanoi city Party Committee also asked the Hanoi city People’s Committee to guide relevant agencies to host the event safely and successfully.

The Japanese side earlier said it would deploy some experts to Hanoi to care for these cherry trees, hoping to have them blossoming within one year after plantation.

The Japanese cherry blossom festival was first held in 2007 in the Japanese Center in Nui Truc street, Ba Dinh district. Each year, it lures more than 100,000 visitors, especially youth. This is an outstanding cultural activity in Vietnam to introduce Japanese culture to visitors.

Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi city People’s Committee said that cherry trees in the north-eastern region of Japan are well matched with the soil and weather conditions in Hanoi.

Cherry trees are speculated to be native to the Himalayas. Currently it is widely distributed, especially in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere including Europe, West Siberia, India, China, Japan, the Korean peninsula, Canada, and the US.

It is considered the national flower of Japan./.
