ASEAN culture highlighted in Argentina
(VNF) - The Vietnamese embassy in Argentina has coordinated with embassies of several other ASEAN member countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines to hold a cultural exchange programme promoting landscapes, cuisines and culture of Vietnam and ASEAN member countries to Argentinian in Buenos Aires on November 27th.
It aims to enhance understanding about ASEAN in Argentina while stepping up cooperation between the South American nation and each ASEAN member country.
Visitors to the festival were attracted by stalls displaying Vietnam’s Ao Dai (traditional long dress), handicrafts and photos capturing cultural identities of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
Besides, Vietnam’s music, traditional martial art and Ao Dai performances, and Vietnamese dishes like Nem (Vietnamese spring rolls) and Nom (salad) also drew the enthusiastic response of the visitors.
Video clips introducing culture, trade and tourism in the five ASEAN countries were screened on this occasion.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao reviewed the outstanding achievements ASEAN has obtained during its establishment and development process over the past five decades.
The association has built itself a significant position in the region and the world, making globally-recognised contributions to peace, stability, co-operation and development in Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific, he said.
Ambassador Thao highlighted ASEAN’s policy to expand relations with all international partners for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world, stressing that the association always cares about and wishes to further co-operation with South American countries, particularly Argentina – the third largest economy with a strong influence in the Latin American region.
ASEAN nations and Argentina have implemented a number of initiatives to accelerate bilateral and multilateral co-operation in all fields, Ambassador Thao said, adding that the Argentinian government and the governments of many ASEAN countries have established the inter-governmental co-operation mechanism and actively participated in the Forum of East Asia-Latin America Co-operation (FEALAC).
He called on Argentina to fully tap into co-operation opportunities with ASEAN member countries, bringing huge benefits to its people and making active contributions to building peace, stability and prosperity in both regions.
As the rotating President of ASEAN in Argentina, the Vietnamese Embassy committed to continuing its coordination with embassies of other ASEAN nations in Argentina and competent agencies in the host country to organise more activities promoting ASEAN’s culture and tightening solidarity and friendship within the group and between the bloc and Argentina./.
