Le Van Thanh's Biography

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh was born on October 20, 1962. His native land is Tan Lien Commune, Vinh Bao District, Hai Phong City.

He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on June 24, 1997. Thanh was granted a Third-Class Labor Order.

With expertise in economics, Le Van Thanh was a member of the Party Central Committee, 12th, 13th tenures, and a deputy to the National Assembly in the 12th tenure.

February 1988-May 1998: Accountant, Deputy Head of Accounting-Finance Division, Hai Phong Cement Factory

June 1998-March 2003: Head of Accounting-Finance Division, Management Board of new Hai Phong Cement Factory Construction Project

April 2003-July 2004: Vice Head of Project Management Board of new Hai Phong Cement Factory Construction Project

July 2004-November 2005: Vice Director of Hai Phong Cement Factory

December 2005-May 2006: Acting Director of Hai Phong Cement Factory

June 2006-May 2009: Director of Hai Phong Cement Factory, Head of Management Board of Urban Cement Hai Phong Project, Deputy to the 12th-tenure National Assembly (from May 2007-May 2011)

Le Van Thanh's tasks as Deputy Prime Minister

According to VGP, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh assists Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in monitoring and directing the following fields:

- Industry, agriculture and rural development, trade – import and export, construction, transport, natural resources, and environment.

- Assurance of energy supply and efficient energy consumption.

- National key works and capital construction investment projects as regulated by the laws.

- Economic zones, industrial parks, processing zones.

- Flood and storm prevention and control, search and rescue work.

He assists the Prime Minister in monitoring and directing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

He also serves as Chairman of the National Planning Council, Chairman of the National Council on Water Resources, Head of the National Steering Committee for Power Development, Head of the State Steering Committee for Key Petroleum Projects, Head of the State Steering Committee for Key Projects and Works of the Transport Sector; Head of the Steering Committee for Coordinating Development of Key Economic Regions, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Housing Policies and Real Estate Market, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Viet Nam-Russia Inter-governmental Commission, chairman of other national councils and committees and head of other steering committees in relevant fields.

Besides, he is responsible to perform other tasks assigned or authorized by the Prime Minister.
