According to a VNA correspondent in Australia, at the meeting, White said AVBCQ is working to advance three investment projects in Vietnam: building a wool manufacturing plant; bringing a gluten-free bakery business into the Vietnamese market; and connecting Australian companies with Vietnamese partners in hospital operations.

The wool manufacturing project is valued at 80 million AUD (57 million USD), with one plant in the North and another in the South handling dyeing, spinning, and weaving, with an annual capacity of 20-25 million kilograms. About 95% of the wool produced in Vietnam will be exported to European markets.
In addition, AVBCQ has proposed connecting Australian business councils with individual member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to form a network that can support one another in business activities.
White also noted that many leaders of the Queensland state government, including the Minister for Trade, are keen to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam. The city of Gold Coast, one of Queensland’s well-known coastal tourism destinations, is also considering establishing a sister-city relationship with Ho Chi Minh City.
For his part, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam highly appreciated AVBCQ’s efforts in promoting cooperation between businesses in Queensland in particular and Australia in general with Vietnamese enterprises. He supported the idea of forming a network linking business councils to enhance cooperation and build production and supply chains between Australian companies and those in ASEAN countries.
As Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra for the first six months of 2026, Pham Hung Tam said he would engage and encourage ASEAN ambassadors and heads of missions in Canberra to help realize this initiative.
The ambassador also expressed his hope to promote cooperation in sectors where Queensland has strong potential, such as quantum computing, ocean research, energy, education, and tourism. He voiced confidence that AVBCQ will continue to serve as an active bridge in strengthening cooperation between Queensland and localities in Vietnam.
