Brand New Vietnamese Language Training Program Launches in Hanoi

This is the first program specializing in teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language. In the program, there will be a combination of linguistic, cultural, and experiential knowledge with modules such as Discovering Vietnam, Vietnamese History through Photos, and Vietnamese Cultural Institutions. It aims to contribute to promoting the Vietnamese language and culture to international friends.

International students will be trained up to level 5 in Vietnamese; Vietnamese students will have level 4 in one of four foreign languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese – ready for the journey of teaching Vietnamese in the future. Both Vietnamese and foreigners can enroll in the program. Foreigners need to reach level 4 Vietnamese language proficiency and meet specific conditions, while Vietnamese will be considered for admission according to the combinations in the enrollment scheme of the University of Languages and International Studies (Vietnam National University, Hanoi)
Dr. Do Tuan Minh, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council of ULIS, shared that thanks to the Government's special attention to the issue of international integration, bringing foreigners to Vietnam to study and introducing the Vietnamese language and culture to the world is encouraged. This is the first time that ULIS has organized a training program for Vietnamese as a foreign language.

With 70 years of experience in training and research on foreign language education, ULIS has a strong foundation to develop the program's curriculum. The values that have made the school's brand in teaching foreign languages in the past will continue to be promoted in teaching Vietnamese to native speakers, foreigners, and expatriates, he noted.

According to Dr. Tran Huu Tri, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures of Vietnam and Southeast Asia, the program aims to meet the needs of the expanding society to learn the Vietnamese language and culture, especially businesses that need to use experts in Vietnamese.
Also, there is a Vietnamese overseas community in the world with a population of over 6 million. The difference in the school's new program compared to other schools is that from the 3rd year onwards, Vietnamese and foreign students will study together, creating community connections and improving learning efficiency. It will significantly help spread the Vietnamese language and culture to international friends.

After the launching ceremony, there are many exchange activities such as exploring Vietnamese cuisine, Vietnamese word quizzes, bamboo hat painting, experiencing Vietnamese traditional costumes, folk games, and photo booths with various cultural themes.
