Four imported cases of COVID-19 were recorded, raising the national count to 1381, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. The four new patients are Vietnamese citizens, with two returning from Saudi Arabia and the two others from Japan. They were quarantined upon their arrival.

So far, a total of 1,225 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered. Among those still receiving treatment, 10 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, nine twice and four thrice. A total of 21,485 people who had close contacts with COVID-19 patients or returned from pandemic-hit areas are being quarantined nationwide, with 161 at hospitals, 17,192 at concentrated facilities, and 4,132 at home or accommodations.

The Health Ministry continues to urge the people to strictly follow the 5K motto: Face masks, Disinfection, Keeping distance, No gathering, Health declaration in order to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

Over 240 Vietnamese citizens brought home from Malaysia

More than 240 Vietnamese citizens were flown home from Malaysia on a flight of Vietjet Air on December 9. The flight, arranged by relevant agencies of Vietnam and Malaysia together with the budget airline, carried pregnant women, the elderly, children under 18, workers with expired labor contracts, and those in extremely difficult circumstances. The Embassy of Vietnam had sent staff to the airport to assist the passengers with boarding procedures.

Safety and preventive measures against COVID-19 were rigorously enforced during the flight to protect the passengers’ health and prevent the spread of the disease. All passengers and crew members received medical checkups and were sent to quarantine in line with regulations upon their arrival at Van Don international airport in northern Quang Ninh province.

The repatriation of Vietnamese citizens in disadvantaged circumstances abroad will be continued in line with citizens’ wishes, the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, and quarantine capacity in the homeland.

Vietnam COVID-19 vaccine trial process officially launched

The Ministry of Health said the Nanocovax vaccine of Nanogen company was officially licensed for testing based on a decision on December 9. On the morning of December 10, the Military Medical Academy officially launched the Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial program and announced the recruitment of volunteers to participate in the research. On December 17, the first vaccination will be given to volunteers participating in phase 1 research.

To ensure the safety of the study participants, during the recruitment period of 60 participants, the safety assessment was conducted according to the increasing dose detection design. Enrollment of participants in phase 1 will begin with three in the group that will be given 25 mcg dose of vaccine.

Based on the results of follow-up and evaluation after 72 hours after the vaccination on these first 3 volunteers, the research group will determine the dose level and the number of participants that will be involved in the next process. The duration of the study per participant was approximately 56 days and the follow-up will last 6 months from the first injection.

On February 9, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) said that it cooperated with Binh Thanh District Medical Center to take a random sample of Covid-19 in the community at Mien Dong Bus Station. Accordingly, 71 people who are office workers, employees of Mien Dong Bus Company Limited, taxi drivers, and public transport drivers in this area were sampled.

According to HCDC, the sampling of Covid-19 is done under the direction of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City asked to continue to focus on the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic, strictly control the centralized isolation areas, charge isolation and home isolation.

In addition, the units of the Department of Health were also required to focus on continuing COVID-19 testing for medical staff at the hospitals in the city to avoid any possible pandemic break, according to Thanh Nien.
