Leaders of Da Nang and Chemnitz (Federal Republic of Germany) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the morning of March 31 in Da Nang, agreeing to promote connections in cutting-edge technology fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), mechanical engineering and automation, opening up practical cooperation between the two localities.

Accordingly, a delegation from Chemnitz led by Mayor Sven Schulze visited and worked in Da Nang. Member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Pham Duc An received and held talks with the delegation.

At the meeting, leaders of the two cities agreed to sign a memorandum establishing friendly relations and cooperation, creating a framework to promote bilateral connections across multiple fields, especially in high-tech industries and manufacturing - areas where both sides have strengths and development needs.

Speaking at the reception, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Pham Duc An welcomed the Chemnitz delegation to Da Nang. He emphasized that the visit is meaningful and follows up on the Da Nang leadership’s working trip to Chemnitz at the end of 2025, thereby opening up many concrete cooperation opportunities between the two localities.

Regarding development orientations, city leaders said that after implementing the policy of administrative boundary merger from July 1, 2025, Da Nang has an expanded development space with a synchronized infrastructure system including two airports and four seaports. The city is leveraging special mechanisms to attract investment and develop trade, tourism, science and technology, and innovation.

Da Nang is focusing on key economic sectors such as logistics associated with seaports and aviation; high-tech industry; information technology, electronics and telecommunications; high-tech agriculture; and the marine economy. At the same time, the city is promoting emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and biotechnology, aiming to become a major socio-economic center of the region by 2030 and an ecological, smart city by 2045.

On that basis, Da Nang proposed strengthening cooperation with Chemnitz in science and technology fields such as semiconductors, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, sustainable energy, mechanical engineering and automation. The city also places emphasis on developing high-quality human resources through training programs, expert exchanges, and connections among government, businesses, universities and research institutes.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Pham Duc An affirmed that Da Nang always values its friendly relations with Chemnitz and is committed to effectively implementing the agreed cooperation contents.

Mayor of Chemnitz Sven Schulze expressed his impression of Da Nang’s infrastructure development pace, economic restructuring orientation and investment attraction policies. He noted that Chemnitz is a center of mechanical engineering and automobile manufacturing in Europe, and is also focusing on developing new areas such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence - fields with strong cooperation potential with Da Nang.

According to Chemnitz city leaders, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will open a new phase in relations between the two localities, aiming for practical and effective cooperation that brings tangible benefits to businesses and people on both sides.
