The event was titled “Vietnam-Russia International Scientific and Practical Conference”. It was held in September 3, marking the opening day of the IX Eastern Economic Forum (EEF 2024) at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on Russkyi Island in Vladivostok

The opening ceremony welcomed video greetings of the President of the Historical Society of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin and the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky.
In his speech, Yury Kulchin, Chairman of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, announced that the conference will focus on analyzing aspects of history, politics, and security based on the important historical events affecting the two countries.
The conference also discussed the current dynamics of Russia-Vietnam relations and the prospects for future relations.
Most of the speeches highlighted Russia's close relationship with Vietnam, which dates to the former Soviet Union, and expressed a desire to strengthen and promote this friendly relationship.
One of the highlights at the conference was the presentation by Vitaly Naumkin - Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He introduced an anthology compiled by the Russian Federation Archives entitled "The Soviet Union and Vietnam in the Second Indochina War 1959–1975."
As the sideline activities of EEF 2024, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Chien Thang, Director of the Institute of European Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences met with Vice Rector for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov and FEFU officials. On this occasion, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation.
