German police arrested dozens of people after the riots in Stuttgart

Addressing the press conference in the afternoon of June 21, Stuttgart City Police Chief Frank Lutz said that German police had arrested 24 subjects, including 12 Germans and 12 ones of other countries The Guardian reported.

These are the participants in the riots, vandalism and looting that took place on Sunday night, June 21 in Stuttgart city, the capital of Baden-Wurtemberg state in southern Germany.

The case lasted for hours and ended only at 3 a.m on June 21, when a crowd of about 500 people with almost young people, burned police cars, attacked police, and smashed shops and looted.

According to Stuttgart police, 40 shops were smashed and at least nine stores were robbed. About 280 German police were mobilized to stop the riots and dozens were injured due to the attack.

This riots are shocking Germans because these are rare incidents in this country. The German press describes the scene in Stuttgart as ones in wartime.

According to the investigations, the initial cause came from a German police investigation to a group of young people due to suspicion of drug trafficking, leading to increased stress. Groups of young people then called each other to flock to downtown Stuttgart to smash.

Government leaders, as well as many parties in Germany, are calling for an indepth investigation and strict punishment to perpetrators. German police do not eliminate political motives leading this case, especially of the leftist faction. In addition, the element of immigration is also mentioned as a possible reason.

When it comes to the nationalities of the 12 non-Germans who were detailed after riots, Stuttgart’s deputy police chief, Thomas Berger said that they came from a range of countries, from Croatia and Portugal to Afghanistan and Somalia.
