Gia Lai province strives to reduce poverty rate by 2.6%
For the final months of this year, the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai will continue to increase measures for poverty reduction, aiming to realize the year’s target of reducing the poverty rate by 2.6%, in accordance with the national target program on poverty reduction in the 2016-2020 period.
To realize the target, the province has organized training courses for those who work on poverty reduction at the grassroots level; coordinated with relevant agencies to build houses for poor families; and carried out poverty reduction policies like providing healthcare, education and housing for the poor.
In addition, the program on boosting socio-economic development in extremely disadvantaged ethic minority-inhabited communes, the project on supporting agricultural production, farmers and rural areas, as well as new models providing means of livelihood for the poor, are continually being carried out.
Since the beginning of this year, suitable solutions have been synchronously implemented, which helps address the urgent demand of the poor. In addition, poverty reduction policies and programs have created favourable conditions for poor people to boost domestic economic development. The poor have gained access to poverty reduction policies of the State, while increased investment has been poured into building infrastructure in remote areas.
A survey conducted in 2015 showed that Gia Lai province had 64,000 poor families, accounting for 19.71% of its population, with over 53,000 of them being ethnic minority people./.
