Hanoi Honors Cuban National Hero Jose Marti on His 172nd Birthday

Wreaths were laid in front of Cuban national hero José Martí’s statue in Hanoi’s Tao Dan Park on January 23 to commemorate his 172nd birth anniversary.
The ceremony was held by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA), the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations, and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam.
Attending the ceremony were Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes and his spouse, embassy staff and Cuban experts working in Vietnam, representatives of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO), the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association and the Hanoi's Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association.

Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes recalled José Martí’s life and career, stressing he was also the one who laid the foundation for the friendly relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba with his work "A walk on Annam land" praising the tradition of patriotism and indomitable resistance to foreign invaders of the Vietnamese people.
The diplomat noted that 2025 is the "Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year" when the two countries celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, opening a new phase in the exemplary historical relationship of the two countries. He expressed his hope that the young generations of Vietnam and Cuba will continue to promote that ideology, as well as preserve and nurture the special solidarity and loyal friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.
Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed his confidence in the future development of Vietnam in the new era. He believes that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the consensus and determination of the entire people, Vietnam will achieve the goal of becoming a developed country with high income, following a socialist orientation.
