HCM City disabled man walks to Hanoi to register as organ donor
A disabled young man from HCM City spent nearly 300 days on walking more than 2,000 kilometres to Hanoi to register for organ donation.
Le Ngoc Sang registers for organ donation
Sang started his journey from May 7 last year and arrived at Vietnam National Co-ordinating Centre for Human Organ Transplantation in Hanoi after 282 days.
Sang said that since he became a Buddhist he wanted to do more meaningful things. He often does charitable walks.
He had only VND200,000 (USD8.81) when he began the trip and ran out of money only three days later. He received a lot of support from people who found out about his journey while on the road.
He used up to four pairs of shoes to complete the walk and the final pair was given by a foreigner.
Many of his friends and his parents advised him to give up the journey, but he continued.
According to Nguyen Hoang Phuc, deputy director of Vietnam National Co-ordinating Centre for Human Organ Transplantation, Sang was the third person to have walked or cycled for a long distance to Hanoi to register for organ donation.
Earlier, Tran Nguyen An Khuong from Ca Mau Province cycled Hanoi for registering organ donation. Khuong, 28, weighs just 37 kilos.
Sang said that Khuong’s efforts had been the inspiration for his trip./.
