Japan Times hails visit by Vietnamese PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse at Heneda airport in Tokyo.

The high-level visits have lifted bilateral ties to their highest level in every aspect, from diplomacy, national defense-security, economy, trade and investment, human resources development to people-to-people exchange, it said.

Japan is Vietnam’s top development partner, the second biggest investor, the third largest source of tourist arrivals and the fourth largest trade partner. Japan has also become the top destination for Vietnamese youths with more than 600,000 studying across the country. More than 100,000 Vietnamese graduates work in Japan, contributing to the host country’s development.

On the occasion, a Vietnam-Japan business forum, the largest of its kind was kick started on June 5, featuring more than 1,500 enterprises, during which PM Phuc conveyed the Vietnamese Government’s determination to create a healthy and transparent business environment, facilitating Japanese enterprises' business.

Opportunities for Japanese firms are plentiful, particularly in infrastructure, construction, transport, telecommunications, food and agriculture, small- and medium-sized technological firms and public-private partnership in logistics, tourism, services, healthcare, education, and support industries.

The Vietnamese Government welcomes new investment from Japan, it said, adding that Vietnam considers Japanese firms’ success as its own and Vietnam’s success as Japan’s.

During the stay, the Vietnamese guest was invited to speak at the opening of the 23rd International Conference on the Future of Asia in Tokyo from June 5-6.

Themed “Globalism at a crossroads – Asia’s next move”, the conference is expected to attract more than 400 politicians, government leaders, corporate executives and experts in the region and the world.

The visit is forecast to boost the extensive strategic partnership for peace, security and prosperity in the region.

The Japan Times also conveyed messages from major Japanese groups such as Mitsubishi, Sijitz, Sumitomo welcoming PM to Japan./.
