Khau Vai love market festival celebrates Ha Giang culture

The Khau Vai Love Market Culture-Tourism Week, an annual cultural event of Dong Van karst plateau global geopark in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, will take place in Meo Vac district from May 13th to 16th.

According to vice chairman of the Meo Vac district People’s Committee and head of the festival organizing board Tran Kim Ngoc, Khau Vai love market is the unique market and becomes a legend of each ethnic people in the geopark. This year’s event will again highlight the unique cultural identities of local ethnic minority groups.

During the four-day festival, perse activities including goat, cow and nightingale fighting festivals, horse races and incense offering at two temples in Khau Vai commune and a beauty contest for young girls from Ha Giang province will be held.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the Nung people’s betrothal ceremony, and enjoy traditional dishes of ethnic minorities living across the locality.

Khau Vai love market is the festival of couples who are deeply in love but are forbidden to be together because of different reasons. They promise to meet each other the market on the 27th day of the third lunar month every year to share their feelings in life./.
