The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent a message of sympathy to Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu.
Hagibis that hit Japan’s main island of Honshu on October 12 killed 35 and left 17 unaccounted for as of Sunday afternoon, according to Kyodo News. NHK reported 166 people were injured.
Two Vietnamese sailors were on board the Panama-flagged cargo ship which sank late October 12 in Tokyo Bay off Japan where it was anchored as Typhoon Hagibis approached, according to the Japan Coast Guard (JCG).
The JCG said the vessel’s tracking signal was lost around 9:40pm (local time).
The two Vietnamese nationals were among the 12-member crew of the 1,925-tonne ship. Ten others included three Myanmar and seven Chinese.
The accident killed one sailor and six remain missing. Four others were rescued by the JCG on October 13 morning, it said.
The fate of the Vietnamese sailors remain unknown./.
