Since then, it has achieved many achievements in the field of teaching and researching Korean Studies, including literature. Research works on Korean literature, translation of literary works, organization of Korean literature seminars as well as Korean-Vietnamese translation workshops have been carried out for many years.
It is also more interesting and easier to learn about foreign culture and language through literature. More people are learning about South Korean literature after Han Kang was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature.
Professor Bang Hyun-suk shared that Vietnam has long been a close friend of South Korea. He recalled the event nearly 120 years ago, when the book "Vietnam's national history" by patriot Phan Boi Chau was widely disseminated and became a precious "must-read book" of the Korean patriotic intelligentsia, an important reference material on the way to achieve national liberation.
Vietnam and South Korea officially established diplomatic relations in 1992 and since then, exchanges between the two countries have been open in many fields, especially in literary exchanges, he noted.
About 30 years ago, South Korea's Association of Young Authors paved the way for literary exchanges between the two countries. Today, the Vietnamese-Korean Peace Literature Club, founded by the Vietnam Writers Association and the Asian Literature Network, has organized many compilation, publishing, and seminar activities, thereby introducing the literature of the two countries to a large number of readers.
Up to now, in Vietnam, more than 100 literary works from South Korea have been translated and published, while many Vietnamese literary works have also reached South Korean readers. There are also literary exchanges through research projects, seminars, and sharing of literature-related resources.
Professor Bang Hyun-suk hoped students at USSH would become a solid bridge for promoting cultural and literary cooperation between the two countries.
Musician Trinh Cong Son's bilingual performance "Ancient Diem", presented by students of the Department of Korean Studies, left a deep impression.
At the same time, students and lecturers also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with Korean writers and translators about creative trends, reading tastes, and future cooperation opportunities.
