Following the speedboat capsizing in the An Thoi waters (Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province) on July 11, the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam expressed profound gratitude for the close direction provided by Vietnam's senior leadership and the prompt, responsible response of the competent authorities in search and rescue operations, consular protection, and assistance for the victims' families.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, immediately after receiving information about the accident, the Ministry promptly coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang Province, the Phu Quoc Special Zone authorities, relevant agencies, the Embassy of India in Hanoi, and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to implement consular protection measures for the victims.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent diplomatic notes to the Embassy of India in Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to notify them of the incident. At the same time, the Embassy of Vietnam in India also sent a diplomatic note to India's Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the timely exchange of information and coordination in handling the case.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung extended a message of condolence to Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and the families of the victims. In his message, the Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government had instructed the relevant authorities to implement all necessary measures to assist the victims. He also directed units under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnam's representative missions in India to work closely with India's representative missions in Vietnam to provide timely support and address the consequences of the incident.

To directly oversee support efforts at the scene, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation led by Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, together with leaders of the Consular Department and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations, traveled to Phu Quoc to work with local authorities, relevant agencies, and Indian representatives. The delegation coordinated procedures for the funeral arrangements of the deceased and assisted in completing the necessary documentation to repatriate the victims' remains at the request of their families.

During the meeting with the delegation, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa said that India's senior leadership had been paying close attention to the incident. He expressed his deep appreciation for the concern and sympathy shown by Vietnam's senior leaders and commended the sense of responsibility demonstrated by Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant authorities, and local government in handling the incident swiftly and effectively.

Ambassador Tshering W. Sherpa also conveyed his sincere gratitude to Vietnam's competent authorities for their active efforts in search and rescue operations, consular protection, and support for the victims' families. According to the Ambassador, Vietnam's decision to provide financial assistance to the victims not only helped ease their hardship but also reflected humanitarian values, offering comfort to families coping with grief and loss.

Regarding the deceased tourists, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations coordinated with the relevant authorities to transfer the remains to the Ho Chi Minh City Forensic Center for custody and preservation in accordance with regulations. At the same time, the Department assigned staff to provide round-the-clock assistance and established two dedicated task forces to offer legal support and receive and guide the victims' relatives throughout the procedures in Vietnam.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations also coordinated with units under the Ministry of Public Security to facilitate entry procedures for representatives of the Tamil Nadu state government traveling to Vietnam on behalf of the victims' families to handle related matters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it will continue to closely coordinate with the People's Committee of An Giang Province, the Phu Quoc Special Zone authorities, relevant agencies, the Embassy of Vietnam in India, the Embassy of India in Hanoi, and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to closely monitor developments, implement consular protection measures, complete the necessary procedures, and repatriate the remains of the deceased tourists to India as soon as possible in accordance with their families' wishes.
