More Vietnamese Universities Meet International Quality Standards

The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced a list of the latest addition to the higher education institutions, colleges, and training programs in Vietnam that have been accredited and recognized for meeting international standards.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, 150 tertiary education institutions and nine pedagogical colleges earned the recognition of meeting Vietnamese and foreign quality standards. Out of the aforementioned institutions, seven tertiary education met foreign quality standards.

Internationally accredited by HCERES and AUN-QA, the seven universities of Vietnam are:

Bach Khoa University - Ho Chi Minh City of Technology

Bach Khoa University is one of the four universities in Vietnam accredited by HCERES (The High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education, Europe) at the institutional level; the Third university in ASEAN to receive AUN-QA accreditation at an institutional level.

For programs accreditation, this is also the first university in Vietnam to achieve ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Certification, USA) in two majors: Computer Science and Computer Engineering.

Later on, the institution also achieved AUN – QA (Quality Assurance in ASEAN University Network Certification) in 9 mostly engineer related majors and business administration.

The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology

Four undergraduate programs of The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) have received the Certificates for completing the AUN-QA programme assessment, including programs in Civil Engineering, Food Technology, Mechatronic Engineering and program in Mechanical Engineering (major in Automotive engineering). So far, there have been 13 undergraduate programs at DUT accredited by AUN-QA organization.

DUT is one of the first universities to implement Institution Quality Assessment based on Quality Standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in October 2006.

HUST was accredited for the HCERES on June 12th 2017, in 5 years (June 2017- June 2022).

HCERES’s evaluation criteria are strategy and governance, training and scientific research, training process and vocational integration orientation, foreign relations, management, quality and ethics.

This higher education institution has been running a series of training programs of excellence for students in engineering called PFIEV (Programme de Formation d’Ingénieurs d’Excellence au Vietnam in the French language) since 1999, sponsored by the French Government following the Intergovernmental Protocol, along with other universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology – the National University and Danang University – Danang University of Science and Technology.

The training programs in three specialized engineering areas offered by the NUCE have been evaluated and recognized by the French Committee of Engineering Qualifications (CTI) for 2004 – 2010, 2010 – 2016 and 2016 – 2022.

On the same date as HUST, HUCE has been accredited for the HCERES.

Ton Duc Thang University

Since its creation, origin, and supervising authorities, its missions have mainly focused on teaching activities at the undergraduate and bachelor levels to provide students with technical and soft skills.

In its 2007-2037 strategic research plan, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) targets to become the leading research university in Vietnam and a research university at the global level in the very long run.

Divided into periods of five years, this plan specifies the actions to be engaged for each period and the specific tasks dedicated to the various departments in charge, whether administrative units or academic units.

In 2018, TDTU was accredited for the HCERES.

Hanoi University of Sciences, Vietnam National University in Hanoi

This prestigious institution is formerly known as the University of Hanoi. VNU University of Science is the first university in Southeast Asia to be recognized and accredited by AUN-QA.

VNU-HUS and its faculties have had experience in implementing quality accreditation and training programs by AUN-QA standards. Between 2012 and 2017, eight VNU-HUS programs have been assessed and recognized as meeting AUN-QA quality assessment standards.

International University - Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City

International University officially became the third university in Vietnam to gain AUN-QA accreditation in 2018. AUN also gave certificates for two other qualified training programs of IU: Bachelor Degree in Finance and Banking and Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering.

The certification is valid until 2023.

ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA)

AUN - QA network is a group of Chief Quality Officers (CQOs) appointed by the AUN member universities as the focal point for coordinating activities to realize the mission of harmonizing educational standards and seeking continuous improvement of the academic quality of universities in ASEAN.

The CQOs carry out the AUN-QA activities according to the Bangkok Accord adopted in 2000, which provides a series of guidelines to promote the development of a quality assurance system as instruments for maintaining, improving and enhancing teaching, research, and overall research academic standards of AUN members universities.

Since the establishment of the Bangkok Accord in 2000, AUN-QA has been actively promoting, developing, and implementing quality assurance practices based on an empirical approach where quality assurance practices are shared, tested, evaluated, and improved.

High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education

HCERES (High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education) is the official member of the European Association For Quality Assurance in Higher Education and The Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area.

HCERES is known as a prestigious education quality accreditation organization in not only France but also in Europe.
