On August 11 in Hanoi, President of the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association Chu Cong Phung received Wai Linn, the newly appointed Chargé d’Affaires of Myanmar in Vietnam. The two sides agreed to continue close coordination to promote people-to-people exchanges and economic cooperation, thereby contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

At the reception, President of the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association Chu Cong Phung said that the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association was established in 2014 and has maintained close ties with the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam and the Myanmar-Vietnam Friendship Association. Over the past decade, the Association has organized numerous exchange activities and provided support to the people of Myanmar, especially during difficult times caused by natural disasters and pandemics. It has also actively encouraged Vietnamese enterprises, particularly those in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock, to explore cooperation opportunities in Myanmar, and has helped connect Vietnamese businesses with Myanmar partners.

Recently, when the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam introduced a source of yellow maize for export, the Association promptly shared the information with interested Vietnamese enterprises.

Welcoming Wai Linn to his new post, Chu Cong Phung expressed his hope that during his tenure in Vietnam, relations between the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association and the Myanmar Embassy will continue to develop, bringing practical support to businesses of both countries and contributing to the advancement of Vietnam-Myanmar friendship. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations will see new progress, particularly after Myanmar holds its elections and forms a new government.

Chu Cong Phung also informed that in October, at the invitation of the Myanmar-Vietnam Friendship Association, a delegation from the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association will visit Myanmar. He expressed his hope that the Embassy would provide support to ensure the visit’s success.

Myanmar’s Chargé d’Affaires in Vietnam Wai Linn, highly appreciated Chu Cong Phung’s affection for and experience with Myanmar, particularly during his tenure as Vietnam’s Ambassador to the country. He expressed his gratitude for the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association’s support for the people of Myanmar, including a contribution of over 400 million VND to victims of the March 2025 earthquake.

Wai Linn affirmed that he would continue to work closely with the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association to promote people-to-people exchanges, as well as economic and political cooperation, for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.

Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association Extends Condolences on the Passing of Former Acting President Myint Swe

During the meeting, President of the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association Chu Cong Phung conveyed condolences to the people of Myanmar upon the passing of former Acting President Myint Swe. The Association sent letters of condolence to the Myanmar-Vietnam Friendship Association and to the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam, where it signed the book of condolences.

In the letter, the President and members of the Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association expressed their deep sorrow at the news of Myint Swe’s passing and extended heartfelt sympathy to members of the Myanmar-Vietnam Friendship Association.

“Myint Swe was a talented military leader and a statesman who consistently supported bilateral relations between Vietnam and Myanmar in all areas during his time in office.

We respectfully extend our sincere condolences to his family and the people of Myanmar during this difficult time,” the letter stated.
