Phan Anh Son Elected President of Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for 2026-2031 Term

The Congress elected the 7th-term Executive Committee of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 2026-2031 term, comprising 97 members; the Standing Committee, comprising 22 members; the Standing Board, comprising the President and three Vice Presidents; and the Inspection Committee, comprising five members.

Phan Anh Son, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 6th term, was elected President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 7th term.
The Vice Presidents are Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee, and Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 6th term; Dong Huy Cuong, Member of the Party Committee's Standing Committee and Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 6th term; and Nguyen Thi Thu Giang, Member of the Party Committee's Standing Committee, Member of the Presidium of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 6th term, and Chief of Office of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations.
The Inspection Committee comprises Nguyen Ngoc Hung; Do Thi Kim Dung, Member of the 7th-term Standing Committee, Deputy Chairwoman of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee and Acting Director of the People-to-People Aid Coordination Committee of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations; Ha Thanh, Member of the 7th-term Standing Committee and President of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations; Ho Quang Loi, Member of the 7th-term Executive Committee and President of the Viet Nam-Romania Friendship Association; and Nguyen Thi Hang, Member of the Party Committee's Executive Committee and Deputy Chief of Office of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations. Nguyen Ngoc Hung was elected Chairman of the Inspection Committee.
Speaking after being assigned his new responsibilities, Phan Anh Son thanked the Congress for its confidence in electing members to the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and leadership of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 2026-2031 term. He said this was a great honour as well as a heavy responsibility as the country enters a new stage of development, in which foreign affairs and people-to-people diplomacy have been identified as key and regular tasks, with increasingly high, new and challenging requirements.
According to Phan Anh Son, the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and leadership of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations will promote unity throughout the system from the central to local levels; share a common will, determination, goals and actions; make every effort, dare to think, dare to act and dare to take responsibility; and effectively implement the orientations, resolutions and action programmes adopted by the Congress.

He stressed the need to embrace innovative thinking in practice, match words with action, and use substantive results as the measure of performance; and to build the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations into a streamlined, strong and professional system, with a cadre of officials who demonstrate strong political mettle, are proficient in professional expertise and skills, possess deep and insightful thinking, and are responsive to developments in the times, thereby meeting the demands of tasks in the new situation.
Following the announcement of the results of the first conference, the 7th-term Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Standing Board, and Inspection Committee of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations made their debut.
At the first session of the 7th National Congress of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 2026-2031 term, held in Hanoi on September 14, delegates shared practical, field-tested experience in people-to-people diplomacy. Their discussions focused on concrete approaches: building trust in border areas, leveraging the strengths of organizations and localities, connecting resources, nurturing the next generation, and making tangible results the measure of effectiveness. |
